Personal Statement

Hi! My name is Nathan Marovish. I’m currently in 11th grade (HS Junior), and aspire to study Kinesiology in college. I live on Kauai, the Garden Isle of Hawaii.

Some of my interests (aside from school and wrestling) include running, hiking, paddle boarding,  and miscellaneous “home games” such as chess and card games.

When I was younger, I was that one slow kid on the PE field that everyone knew was an easy target in tag. I had very little athletic ability, and due to that, I had constant self-doubt in my abilities in all aspects of my life. I came to a realization that in this life, I’m only given one body, so I’d better make the most of it.

After that “epiphany moment“, I began to change the way I go about my everyday life. I began rigorously pushing myself in the gym daily, tracking my food intake to best assure that I was getting the most from my body, and spending quality time with quality friends in hopes that they’d support me through whatever I might be facing.

When I first began wrestling in my freshman year, I was honestly just testing the waters for a new sport that I felt I could excel in. I can honestly say that I have felt very few feeling quite as exciting as stepping onto the mat to go head-to-head against a rival opponent.  For the past 3 years I have devoted my gym and leisure time to preparing myself for the next time I step on the mat, with the ultimate goal of holding a state title.

Training

  • Off-Season Sparring

  • I often practice with friends, as well as at a Jiu-Jitsu dojo twice weekly. I mainly focus on strengthening my go-to takedown, breaks, escapes and pins, but do enjoy broadening my wrestling move "arsenal."
  • Morning Running/Gym
  • 3 years
  • Avidly workout daily between morning runs and evening gym sessions (school sports take place between these 2 times). While running, I mainly pair breath work and distance together while also pairing agility and speed. In the gym, my goal is bi-monthly progressive overload to trail for strength and performance over aesthetics.
