Personal Statement/One Pager
As a kid, I was involved in other sports including Taekwondo (black belt) and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. One day, I saw a video of my older cousin Markus at a wrestling tournament. I thought it looked interesting and I wanted to try it out. I fell in love with the sport and it has been a major component of my life ever since.
My love for the sport of wrestling has driven me to be extremely hard-working, determined, and level-headed in the pursuit of my goals. I wrestle year-round; I have been a member of the Freestyle and Greco Roman Illinois National Team for the past two years, and I have set goals to compete internationally this summer. Training year-round in some of the most elite high school wrestling rooms and training with world-class athletes has prepared me for the rigors of college wrestling. My high school coaches made myself and another teammate captains of the varsity wrestling team as juniors. I have received leadership awards on multiple occasions throughout my career. I believe my work ethic, leadership abilities, exposure to high-level wrestling, and commitment to the sport of wrestling would make me an asset to a college wrestling program.
Beyond the high school season, I want to return to Fargo and become a double All-American, as well as qualify for the Pan-American team this summer. My goals for my high school senior season are to help my team win the State Dual Tournament. This past season I was in the top three for team points and wins, as well as top four in win percentage and number of wins by fall. I finished the regular season before the State Series with a win over the future State runner-up of my bracket. My personal goals are to continue to dominate my team’s performance stats, and return to the individual State Tournament, at which I aspire finish at the top of the podium. After which, I would like to continue my Freestyle and Greco-Roman pursuits and potentially qualify for the Junior World Team.
My academic goals for college include a medical field-related major. This would benefit me in preparation for attending a medical school. I plan to later devote my studies to a sports medicine field such as orthopedics.
