Wrestling is my favorite thing to do. My love for the sport was sparked while I lived overseas in Abu Dhabi, where I trained freestyle and judo from ages 5–12 years and was awarded MVP of my middle school team. When I moved to Massachusetts in eighth grade, I was lucky enough to train with the Brookline varsity wrestling team, learning from several D1 state champions. However, I really became obsessed when I was forced away from the sport during quarantine, watching hours of film and technique videos every day. As soon as I could, I continued wrestling with my school and club. In my sophomore year, I was a sectional finalist and won the coach’s award. My close losses fueled an intense desire to improve during the off-season at summer camps and club wrestling.
My junior year, I had a dominant season with an overall record of 35-3. I won the the Wilmington Sons of Italy Invitational, Weymouth Invitational, and MIAA D1 Central/Metro Sectional. I pinned or tech’d everyone I met in January and February. Furthermore, I was seeded third heading into the D1 State Championships, and I was training hard to win. Unfortunately, I was restricted from competing at States due to a concussion.
I am also passionate about leadership. I was selected captain this year as a Junior, and I lead pre-season meetings, weightlifting, and recruiting for the team. I’m grateful that I was able to share my love and attitude toward wrestling with our newer team this year. I also have volunteered as a coach at our school’s youth wrestling program throughout the last 2 years. Likewise, I am proud to say I founded and am president of the chess club at Brookline High School, which has grown into a thriving program. I lead the team to win the Massachusetts High School Chess League this year, and started a volunteer chess program at the local senior center in conjunction with my school club. I hold an unweighted 3.93 GPA with a rigorous course load.
At the end of the day, I always want gold, and I am relentless in my pursuit. I am extremely excited to wrestle in college and prove myself on an elite level.
