The practice before our first wrestling match this past season, I broke my kneecap. This made my goal of getting to Atlantic City seem unlikely but I decided not to let this get in my way of achieving what I set out to achieve. I diligently followed the doctor's orders while at the same time planned my return to the mat. If I was going to be able to wrestle at all this season, I was going to have to compensate for my legs so I spent all my time working on strengthening my upper body and studying moves. After missing most of the season, I was cleared to wrestle the week of our District match. With one week of mat time, I placed 2nd in the District, then 4th in the Region and made it to States. I think with hard work, and determination athletes can achieve what others may not think they can. I am willing to put in the hard work even when the outcome doesn't look so good. This is a lesson that I will not only apply to my athletic career but to my academics and to life as well.
