I started wrestling my freshman year of high school after the football season ended. I played basketball in the winter up until this point but my older brother convinced me to at least try out wrestling and see how I like it. Those first few practices flipped my perspective on wrestling on its head and made me fall in love with it. My confidence and hardships helped me to become a captain of our wrestling team my sophomore year and a starter in both football and tennis. Wrestling cultivated me into a three sport athlete, an honors and AP student and a more confident friend, brother and teammate. If I asked my coaches and teammates what makes me different on the mat than other wrestlers they would probably say that I have great technical skills and love to get into tough scrambles. With my enthusiasm for learning, I am able to pick up new moves quickly and enjoy learning through trial and error.
I have been awarded Rookie of the Year in wrestling during the 2021 season and Rookie of the Year in tennis during my 2022 season. In my last three years of wrestling I have competed at multiple National level tournaments such as the NHSCA dual and individual tournaments and in the 2024 US Marine Corps Freestyle Nationals in Fargo, ND representing North Carolina as a 175 pound junior. I am skilled in both Freestyle and Folkstyle getting gold in many tournaments throughout the past few years. My biggest achievement during the regular season is getting sixth place in the NCHSAA State tournament. Since then I have been practicing with coaches and wrestlers that will help me be able to compete and win in even larger, more prestigious tournaments and prepare me for collegiate competition.
