Elija Fishler '21 Recruiting Profile

At an early age I experienced a rough setting when my parents decided they were getting divorced. I was afraid that my two biggest supporters would have to divide up weekends or decide who can show up to my tournaments. I realized that no matter what strife was between my parents that it wouldn’t change how much they care about me. My parents also were the ones who started me on the path to becoming a great wrestler. Wrestling has always been tradition throughout my family. My uncle, Danny Mello, who was Pan-Am champion and was on the 1980 Olympic Team, has not only shown me how to be a great athlete but has taught me the morals of mental dedication and gratitude.

Determination. My biggest personal characteristic is determination. I will never give up on something because of the difficulty. I might not always get the results I want, but my determination to improve will never change. For example, my sophomore year at state I was the number 2 seed, and I lost my first match. I was hurt, but I was still determined; so I won 8 matches in a row to get 3^rd place. I will always be determined to succeed and I will always put this effort into my academics and athletics at the college I choose to attend.
