I am a simple person and I think setting simple, attainable, goals is the key to growth. I love baseball, I’ve been playing it for as long as I can remember, and I want to keep playing it. I value balance and I pride myself in being able to play and enjoy baseball while continuing to grow my education.
Baseball has been in my life ever since I first picked up a plastic wiffle ball bat at age 3 and I’ve never looked back. Living in Alaska means a short season and often little time for major improvement during the summer. Most of my time training for baseball happens indoors during the winter and outdoors in cold fields and parking lots in the spring and fall, but it’s what I love. Training in the weight room with my high school football team provides a lot of benefits. It keeps me humble, but also pushes me to get better every day. I thrive off of the sense of comradery and support found in football and I love being in an environment where the guys around you push you to be better and support you while doing so; it’s just a positive feedback loop that benefits everyone. Baseball takes up nearly half my life and I’m grateful I get to play it year after year.
Academics have always been very important to me and my family. I’ve spent countless hours furthering my education so I’d be prepared for what college requires to be successful. I want to go to a college that furthers that education and gives me an academic base for success in my life in general. I’ve found academics to be extremely valuable on the field: as a catcher I have to be thinking logically about where the next pitch should go more than a hundred times a game. I believe I’ll be successful at any college I go to because my record proves I can learn and I can stick with it until I am successful. Dedication and a love for the game and learning are what motivate me to seek a future in collegiate baseball.
