Hello!
My name is Nicholas Lagunas. I am 17 years old and a 2022 graduate. I am currently a senior at Walter Payton Preparatory High School. I have played for their varsity baseball team coming up to three years now. I am primarily a catcher and pitcher but with a steady hand at 1B and 3B .
I humbly started at my local league in Chicago. I gradually improved and caught the eye of more competitive travel teams. This gave me the opportunity to play not only outside my city but outside my state as well. Moving up to 11u I traveled around the United States facing quite literally the best players around the country. With my travel team, I was scouted multiple times to play at All American Games where I contributed to two championships at Florida and Arizona. Transitioning to my high school team we put in a division that I as well as my teammates believed underrepresented the talent of the program. Together we won the JV program’s first City Championship in years and moved the school towards a more competitive division. My contribution to this success was being a catcher and a reliable voice of the infield. My pitching was consistent and filled with movement. Even coming in to save the game against the runner-up who was considered the likely winner of the whole season. Right now I play for the Chicago Cubs All-Stars. A program filled with bright and competitive young leaders from all around Chicago and this will be my 3rd year with them!
When it comes to academics I take it with the same seriousness as I do on the field. With a weighted GPA of 3.97 and an unweighted grade of 5.26, I have taken and overcome some of the most rigorous classes school offered. This includes but is not limited to the 7 AP classes with 3 more on their way! I loved to be challenged academically and always strive for a deeper understanding beyond the classroom. For example, I recently was awarded a Chicago Cubs Scholarship. A scholarship and mentorship program where I was recognized because of my personality showcased at the Chicago Cubs All-stars.
My aspiration for baseball is and always was big. I believe I have the ability to play at a higher level and want to show you that! I came from a family of dreamers and I will keep that way of thinking for the long run. I never back down from challenges whether on the field or in school. I want to join a school that offers both of these because I know that I am completely capable of doing so. I played with people around my city, around my state, and around the country. Over the years I understand the importance of being a team player. I saw how the best players were not only fast and strong but compassionate as well. I apply what I learn to become a better player and teammate. I want to take my baseball career to the next level and am willing to put my best foot forward
