As my senior year in high school at Walter Payton College Prep begins, I am starting to get a small idea of what I might like to major and/or minor in during college. As stated above, I think I would like to study something along the lines of economics or psychology. However, I also have a deep interest for music and am considering choosing a major or minor in the musical field. As far as where I'd like to study, I have high hopes of getting into an academically prestigious and rigorous school, but one that also has an exceptional balance of academics and athletics (men's baseball specifically).
I am a hard worker, and always have been. In relation to baseball, I am willing to do whatever it takes to improve my game personally, as well as creating bonds with teammates and giving whatever I can to help my team, even if part of a group of players that I have never met or played with before. I believe one of the best ways to encourage your teammates and lead is by example; you should always have energy, play with an edge, and remember to have fun and enjoy the game. Awareness, resiliency and mental toughness, combined with athleticism and coordination makes me talented baseball player with a high "baseball IQ." Although I am very passionate about the game, I am someone who prefers to lead by example. I believe actions speak volumes about someone's character, and the little things that he or she does is what shapes who he or she is. When this principle does not apply, I am not afraid to speak up and provide a teammate with constructive criticism and help if his mechanics or another aspect of his game needs improvement.
I am also very passionate about music, academics, and basketball. While keeping a high GPA at Payton, one of the most academic high schools in the state, I participate fully in vocal music programs at the school. I am in the men's a cappella group "Sounds of Sweetness," the school Madrigals group (a cappella music from the Renaissance period), and sing in the school concert choir. I have a deep interest in music and appreciate all genres of it. I have started at the point guard position on the school's varsity basketball team for the last three years, leading the team in 3-pointers, steals and assists, and intend on playing this coming year as well.
