My name is Adrian Balkcom and I am a junior at Great Neck South High School. My love for baseball started when I was 4 years old at my first tee-ball game. Ever since then I have worked countless hours trying to learn from as many people I can to increase my knowledge of the game. I am a hard worker both on and off the field as I am practicing 5 to 6 days a week, as well as attending after school classes to further my academic interests. I am a good learner and easily coachable. I strive to be the best I can, and use tips from many teachers and coaches to increase my knowledge on and off the field. College baseball has been a dream of mine since I was around 10, and I am working very hard to make this dream a reality.
Off the field and outside the classroom, I play the drums as well as help coach my brother's 10u baseball team. I started playing the drums when I was around 5 years old. It has given me a sense of rhythm which helps my timing during games by allowing me to create my own pace. I enjoy coaching my brother's team because it allows me to share the knowledge I have gained from other coaches. The game of baseball is constantly evolving, so coaching younger kids allows me to learn from their perspective about the game.
I would like to play baseball at a high academic college where I can study Biology with the ultimate goal of working in allergy and immunology. I have many food allergies which I am receiving treatment to desensitize myself from the most dangerous allergens before I enter college. It has been a life changing process for me and I want to be apart of doing that for someone else. Playing baseball, what I love, combined with gaining the academic foundation, in a field I can make a meaningful impact in, would be a dream come true for me.
