I have been interested in baseball my entire life. Even when I have been faced with barriers in my baseball career I continued to train, and then trained more.
When I tried out for my travel team’s “elite” team I was told that I made it but that I would not be the starting catcher. That did not stand with me, so I decided to show up nearly everyday to our indoor facility and train. While the primary catcher thought his position was secure, I continued working on my catching and hitting every day until I passed him. I even got a position on an older team so that I could get more practice. Also, I would catch bullpens for the kids taking pitching lessons. When the spring season came around I was the starting catcher and was batting 4th in the lineup. I continue to work everyday to better myself and always try to be the best on my team.
Meanwhile, I also take school very seriously. I will always choose academics over sports if my grades start to drop. I take the most challenging classes and I am enrolled in all honors or AP classes. I love baseball, and it will always be a part of me, but when it conflicts with school I will always choose school. Luckily, that hasn’t been an issue.
