Personal Statement

My collegiate goals and aspirations include playing the game I have loved since I was 4 at the college level while I earn a degree on Physical Therapy. What makes me a good candidate for a college baseball team, is my work ethics, my "can-do" attitude and will to constantly improve. I consider myself a multi-talented student-athlete. Aside from baseball, I also play mid-fielder on the school's varsity soccer team and shooting guard on the varsity basketball team. I also play the alto sax on my school band, I play the drums and the electric guitar. Although I have a busy schedule, I still manage to be a top student in my class where I am ranked 13th among my peers, with a GPA of 4.045. I was brought up with great values and morals. All this makes me a different recruit with great character.

  • "Giovanni, Coach Johnson and I were very impressed with your abilities and the way you went about things on the field. We think you have the ability to come in and fight for a spot at 2nd base as a freshman as we are graduating both of our 2nd baseman. We also think that you will have the ability to move over to SS when our starter graduates. We want you here at Guilford next year." Nick Black Head Baseball Coach Guilford College

  • "Gio we really liked what you had to offer. You are a fast player with a good arm and swing. We think you could do big things here at Brevard and be a quick contributor. As you know we are losing a lot of seniors and need players like you to replace them, so we can continue to compete for a Championship. With that being said and after talking with the other coaches we would love if you came to be a part of the Brevard College baseball program. I want to offer you a chance to play baseball at Brevard. We look forward to talking more and hopefully having you in our program. " Coach Booker

  • "Giovanni is a gamer who plays the game the right way. He is a hard worker who has made several improvements to his game. Foot speed has improved as he now runs his 60 yard dash in 6.84. Offensively, Giovanni is a 'table setter' who is a spark in the top of the line-up. He barrels the ball up consistently and hits line-drives. He is quick out of the box and down the 1B line, putting pressure on the defense. Defensively, he has quick footwork and moves well around the GB from right to left. He funnels smoothly and has a quick release to fire accurate throws across the diamond. Garcia is versatile and can play many different spots in the INF. This well-rounded athlete will make things happen when he steps onto the field." Baseball Factory Coaching Staff

  • Garcia continues to shine. Defensively, he moves fluidly around the GB and presents working to field the ball out in front. Gather/funnel is smooth/clean as he makes the plays consistently and is sure handed. With the bat, this RHH show a balanced approach with patience. He is aggressive and steps into the box looking to swing it. Barrel delivery is level as he connects and hits line-drives. Giovanni has a solid skill-set and will make an impact on the diamond. Giovanni's exemplary skills has granted him a spot on the 2015 Under Armour National Fall Classic, where he will play 2B.

  • 11/02/2014 - Premium Video Program - Roanoke, VA This MIF continues to work hard. He presents his glove out in front, and works around the ball from right to left. Active footwork and a clean exchange allow him to work in-line toward his target at 1B. DP feeds and turns are quick as he has a good feel. With the bat, this RHH displays a balanced approach with simple actions. Swing path is level as he connects and drives the ball. Garcia is only a 2016 grad and still has time to continue to develop.

Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a solid line drive approach. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

  • Perfect Game 2014 15U WWBA National Championship
  • 6/20/14 to 6/27/14
  • Giovanni had a great week as he participated in his first National Championship. He played the middle infield (2B and SS) for the 15U Charlotte Megastars. Defensively he was able to contribute to the teams early success by making spectacular stops as well as the routine plays. Offensively he batted in the teams sixth spot, where he was able to constantly hit to the opposite field, behind the on-base runners where he contributed with a number of RBIs as well as singles. The coach's "green-light" base stealing sign placed Gio in scoring position almost every time he was on base. During the final days of the tournament Giovanni was called on the mound with bases loaded, where he saved a very close game for the Megastars. Overall Giovanni Garcia received great comments from the coaching staff throughout the week.

Feet are active as he works on squaring balls up and makes the routine plays. He moves well laterally, flashing range in the MIF. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack ground balls and play through while presenting hands more out front. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but needs to build more arm strength and work to get rid of the ball quicker to improve arm grade. At the plate, he shows a squared setup and loads well. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path as he makes consistent contact. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more and build more overall body strength. At the event, he was 1 for 4 with 2 BB as he is patient and shows a strong recognition of the strike zone. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard, showing a desire to be the best player he can be
