My name is Julien Bennett Peissel. I am currently a junior at Saint Stephens High School in Hickory, North Carolina. I am 6’2” and weigh 178 pounds.
During my freshman year of high school, I started the baseball season in the #2 spot of the pitching rotation on our Varsity team while I was the starting SS on the JV team and hitting 3rd in the lineup. After a few games, I was permanently moved to the Varsity team and started as either the RHP, SS, or 3B. I have been named one of the co-captain's for our 2021 Varsity Baseball team at St. Stephens High School.
My sophomore season was a washout. While my teammate's season was cut extremely short due to Covid-19, my season never started due to a tear to my ACL during basketball season during my Sophomore year. I had surgery on my right knee on December 20th 2019. I attended all our baseball workouts and games. Our school's baseball coach utilized me to help the JV players with batting and pitching during our school practices. During the summer season with my travel team, I attended the practices and coached first base during the tournaments. During my off time, I spent as much time as I could with my private strength and training coach working on my upper body and core. I was fully released in September of 2020 and back on the field for the fall travel season.
For the past four years, I have spent my summers and fall playing Showcase Baseball with Athlete’s Lab out of Maiden, North Carolina. I start as either the RHP or SS, and hitting 3rd or 4th in the lineup.
My coaches throughout the years have said that I am extremely athletic and very coachable. I am competitive and I love to win; however, I am not a bad sport if my team loses a game or tournament. I take those losses as opportunities for improvement. My coaches and teammates view me as having “nerves of steel” - especially in pressure situations on the mound. I am good at hiding my emotions and controlling my composure, so it may appear that way when it isn’t necessarily the case. My teammates also say that I am a leader. You will hear me on SS talking to my infield and outfield teammates before most plays. In the dugout, I encourage all my teammates - whether they are having a good day or a bad day.
When I am not on the baseball field, I am either fishing or hunting. I enjoy turkey hunting in the spring and deer hunting in the fall. Even more than hunting, I am an avid fisherman - both freshwater and saltwater.
I currently have a 3.95 grade point average. Upon graduating from high school, my goal is to attend a university that has a solid baseball program and an outstanding business department. At this time I am thinking I would like to work as a stock broker, so I am considering a major in finance or business administration while playing college baseball.
