My name is Kohen Ponder. I am 6’1” and 140 pounds. I currently attend the Career and Technical School as a freshman in Iredell County. This allows me to play baseball at North Iredell High School where I am an outfielder and a right-handed pitcher. I have also played travel ball with several different teams in the past and will be playing with the Five Star Vipers in the upcoming season.
I started playing baseball at a young age and I always was able to play every position. As I grew older and my body developed, it was clear to me that with my speed and length I was meant to be an outfielder and a right-handed pitcher. I love the game of baseball because it has taught me to be a better teammate, have discipline, work hard, and be goal-oriented. Throughout my life, I have played soccer, basketball, and baseball. I quickly became aware that baseball was the sport for me.
Academics are very important to me. I currently have a 3.7 GPA and am striving to keep it that way through my high school years. I am interested in pursuing Environmental Science studies as I head into college to get a degree in Environmental Engineering.
Outside of baseball and school, I love to be involved in my youth group and the missions and outreach we are a part of. I also love attending Fellowship of Christian Athletes events. These events help me keep focused on God and how He gives me the ability to walk firm in my faith and know that he has given me the talent to succeed at moving forward in baseball. I also love to play golf, basketball with my friends, fish, and other outdoor activities.
Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement and I look forward to any future conversations with you.
