Playing baseball at the highest level has been a goal of mine since I can remember. Watching the College World Series on TV with my dad and seeing the Rosenblatt Stadium filled with fans and teams from all over the country competing for the NCAA title gave me goosebumps. To this day, playing in that stadium is still a goal of mine.
Who is Timmy Bonin as a player? First, I consider myself a great teammate. I care about each and every player I'm out on the field competing with. I'll be the first to go over to them and "pick them up" when they need encouragement. I give 100% every play. That includes busting it down the line, laying out for fly balls in the gaps, and grinding every at-bat in order to help my team win. I'm not afraid of the moment; the big game or the crucial at-bat. I want the ball or bat in my hand with the game on the line. And if in those moments, I don't succeed. I'll own it and work harder. No excuses. No finger pointing. I'm my toughest critic. But I believe more times than not, I'll come through.
I have played high level travel ball for years. I've played against the best competition up and down the east coast. Baseball has given me some great memories. It was never about the trophies. It was always about playing on those hot Sunday afternoons’ late in the day with my buddies trying to accomplish a single goal together.
But for me, there is nothing like competing with your friends from your hometown. I'm proud of where I live. From tee ball to high school there is nothing like wearing a jersey with your town name across the front of it. I also play QB for our high school football team. There is nothing that excites me more than the thought of Friday nights under the lights representing Northern High School. The crowd consisting of the student body, family, and friends in a packed stadium. The bigger the game. The more I want to win.
This past spring before the pandemic canceled my first high school season, I was selected to travel south with the varsity baseball team. This was an honor because I was the first Freshman to be selected since 2008 to make the trip to North Carolina. I played in the first three games and was told by my head coach I had made the varsity team. Since I was 13-years old my goal was to make the varsity team as a Freshman, so I was extremely proud of that accomplishment.
I pride myself in my character. I'm respected by my family, friends, teammates, teachers, coaches, and school administrators. Each and every day I try to do my very best to be a positive influence in those people in my life. I try and lead with integrity and respect. I promise to give my all to any college or university interested in me for their program.
