Hey coaches! My name is Erin Mahaffey. I’m currently a Junior at Rising Sun High School. This is my 7th year playing field hockey! During my field hockey career I’ve played three seasons of outdoor hockey with Rising Sun High, five season of indoor hockey with Sun Hockey, H2O, and the Delaware Sharks, two years of Futures, two years of Shooting Stars, three seasons of JPOL, and countless hockey camps and clinics. My first time playing hockey was a clinic at my now high school when I was in 5th grade. I shocked my parents and myself with my ability to excel at the sport and I’ve absolutely loved it ever since. I take advantage of every opportunity to play that I’m presented with. I started my freshman year on the junior varsity team. My coach pulled me up to the varsity team for the regional play offs. We lost the final game 1-0 but we played well as a team and I'm very proud to have had that experience. There are several aspects of hockey that I think make it such an amazing sport. In a physical way, I absolutely love how demanding field hockey is. The feeling of getting the ball and running your hardest to the goal, pulling, dodging, and passing up the field to score with such agility and force is something that I’ve found to be unmatched in any other sport. Socially hockey is the perfect opportunity to make new friends and leave your comfort zone. When you become part of a field hockey team you’ve become part of a family where no one gets left out or feels excluded no matter the circumstances. I think that the most important aspect of hockey is being a leader. Not necessarily being team captain or the best player on the team but being the most supportive and knowledgeable team mate you can be. On my hockey team, our main focus is to help new players improve their skills and build up our team mates. I would love the opportunity for you to see some of my skills!
