I have loved field hockey ever since I took up the sport in 7th grade and joined my school's modified team. Even before that, I knew that I had always wanted to play since I was very young because my oldest sister played all throughout middle and high school. I used to play with her stick and a ball in the backyard before I even knew the details of the game. All I knew is that I couldn’t wait to start. After my first season in 7th grade, things really started to pick up for me and the sport. I was pulled up to junior varsity in 8th grade and varsity at the end of my 8th grade season. My coach saw potential in me that I didn’t even see in myself at the time, and that really helped propel me further into the sport. In 9th grade, I was a starter on varsity with only one other freshman. Everyone else was a junior or senior, mostly seniors, and playing up with the older girls was incredibly helpful for me to develop my skills and game strategy. That year, our team performed the best it had in over a decade, reaching the regional finals but being edged for the title by a score of 1-0. Being a part of a team like that was so special and an experience that I will always remember. Since 9th grade, I have been a member of the Rye Field Hockey Academy and my love for field hockey has only grown. This sport has gotten me through the toughest times and hardest challenges that I have faced so far, and it is such an important aspect of my life. Every day, I strive to be better, work harder, and achieve my goals. I have realized that I care about this sport so much and don’t want to leave it behind after high school. I am interested in continuing field hockey at the collegiate level and am looking for a program that is a match for me both athletically and academically. My determination and competitive spirit would make me an asset to your team!
