I am passionate about and have participated in sports my entire life. I have two older brothers, so I tried, from a very young age, to keep up with any sport they played in the backyard. I have been a member of a variety of sports over the years, including karate, ballet, soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, hockey, and my most recent sport, field hockey.
I was born and raised on Nantucket Island and chose to attend a boarding school to challenge myself and open more opportunities for myself. I attend St. George’s School in Middletown, RI, where I am presently a three-sport varsity athlete. I compete in varsity field hockey, ice hockey, and softball. When I arrived on campus my freshman year, I knew that I had to play a sport in the fall. Never before picking up a stick, I was encouraged to try out for JV field hockey instead of the thirds team. The head field hockey coach then asked me to try out for varsity - she did not realize that I had never played before and thought that I had the skills to be a varsity player. I not only made the team, but I was a starter. As I begin my third season next year, I have learned a lot about the game and about me, as a player and a person. I love the sport and enjoy seeing my growth as a player.
I have been unable to play club field hockey due to my commitment to school (I have classes 6 days a week) and in the three varsity sports above. After being a three-sport athlete for the last two years, I have developed a strong passion for field hockey and that is what I want to pursue at the collegiate level.
I enjoy and actively train for all three of my high school sports all year. For the past three summers, I have commuted for 7 weeks off-island to attend Paul Vincent’s Hockey training camp - 2 hours on ice and 2 hours of workout training. Last year I worked with the trainer to design a program to help in field hockey. When I returned to start field hockey after last summer, I was awarded the “most prepared athlete to return for the upcoming season”.
I am very a very energized, dedicated, and competitive player. I feel that I would be an asset to any team at the collegiate level. I love to be part of a team - I have always regarded any team that I am part of as a family. I am looking forward to being with a group of athletes that share in my enthusiasm, commitment, and passion.
