I am Charles Wilkes, a 6’2’’ defensive player at Purnell Swett High School, Pembroke NC. I am really excited about next level football in college. I am a versatile, team player and averaging 11.2 tackles per game and I believe your coaching style and experience as a D1 team can take my tackle averages to the next level. Currently, I hold a 3. 6 GPA and I am taking dual credit courses to start my college Journey. I am interesting in pursuing a degree Engineering. I am very interest in becoming a Engineer.
The want and need to be better as an athlete instilled my dedication to the sport. Through football, I have obtained an amazing understanding of leadership and accountability. Throughout the years, I have learned there is no one way to lead and have found different leadership methods are required to lead a team. During high school, my leadership abilities has adapted depending on the player and situation. While playing football, I have learned my failure does not dictate who I am.
While in high school, I attend honors courses while participating in community college courses. When I graduate, I plan to have obtained at least 20 college credits that will directly transfer to future colleges. In terms of college, I gave dreams of pursuing an engineering and/or physics degree, but I do not know what field of engineering I want to purse quite yet. My love for football transpires just playing, it has helped me overcome many obstacles I have faced in life. For example, I was never the best reader, because I was never interested. I only cared about math and numbers, but English just never came easy to me. I was placed in countless tutoring programs, but nothing worked. One day, one of my teachers who had been by my side through it all, purpose transferring my love of football into my reading skills. She allowed me read football related books because that was what I was interested in. It was the only thing as the time that could grasp my attention. I possess many unique characteristics such as adaptable leadership qualities, dedication, and commitment to my academic. Many people only want to play football, but I understand that football can be a doorstep into achieving future success in life. Football will allow me to attend college while chasing my dream at the same time.
