“I’ve missed more than 900 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” (Michael Jordan). This quote hangs on my wall and every day it gives me motivation to improve in my studies, basketball and life. There have been times where I didn’t do well on a test or I didn’t perform as well as I would have liked to in a basketball game. There have been times when I have taken the winning shot and missed and there have been times I have taken the winning shot and won. Each of these experiences has helped develop who I am today. Overcoming my failures has taught me how to bounce back by focusing on the positive, working hard to improve and learning from what did not go right. My successes have given me confidence in myself to be the best I can be, the understanding of commitment and the passion to grow as a leader. There is no better feeling than doing well on a test or making the game winning shot!
My faith, family and friends are a huge part of my life. They have been with me every step of the way and I have learned how valuable a great support system can be as I follow my dreams. All of this support has taught me the value of working together and being there for each other whether things are going well or not. Team work is huge on and off the court! As I near the end of my high school career, I am looking to further my education and continue to play basketball. As a high academic student, a three year varsity player and two year captain, I have the honesty, integrity, self-motivation and determination to be a valuable asset to the team.
