My name is Rebecca Salinas, and my goal is to be a leader on the court, in order to take the team to the highest level. I plan on doing this by helping push my teammates to their best potential, using my abilities to compliment their game so that we play at our optimal level. By focusing on communication, it allows me to let my teammates know what I need from them. I lead by example by putting in the most work and making good decisions on and off the court. I also also hold my academics at a high priority, which also allows me to study hard and take care of my classroom life. I am part of the defense perspective of the game, and by communicating, I help the offense execute to the best of their ability. My coaches have commented on my responsibility in communicating and taking charge from the back row.
I started playing volleyball at a very young age and fell in love with the game. I have played 5 years in club volleyball and plan to continue. When I first started playing volleyball, I played setter. My freshman year in high school my coach decided a defensive specialist would fit better. That year I became the starting libero and the team managed to be 2nd overall in districts with only 2 losses. My sophomore year in high school I was a starter on JV and together as a team won districts and had a record of 20- 1 . In club, I currently play all around outside and have many victories in tournaments including the Spring Fever and Sunday Fun finals where we played local tournaments and received 1st overall . In some other tournaments we have played in nationals, we have received 3rd in playoffs and even 2nd in the championships.
I want to study to become a nurse in college and use my sports background to work fast paced and efficiently throughout my career. I plan to continue to work hard and pursue my goals to the best of my ability with my leadership and communication skills I have learned through the game of volleyball.
