Geoffrey Vavitsas '23 Recruiting Profile

My name is Geoffrey Vavitsas and I am from Toronto, Canada. I have loved the sport of diving since I was eight years old. At that age, I started in a Learn to Dive program and quickly progressed to competition level. This year marks eight years of ongoing dedication and commitment to the sport.  Currently,  I am diving six days a week as a member of  the Toronto Diving Academy team.   Due to strict Covid lockdowns in Ontario, we were out of the pool for approximately eight months and  competitions were cancelled in my grade 10 year.  Now that Covid is somewhat under control I have been diving consistently since September 2021 and improving with every practice.  I have been competing at the National level since 2016 and have finished in the top ten each time. This is an accomplishment that I am  very proud of.   Diving has afforded me the opportunity to travel and compete across Canada.

Diving is part of who I am.  I am extremely motivated to achieve my potential in this sport and thus wish to continue diving in my college years. Seeing hard work pay off in competition is a feeling that is second to none.  Being part of a supportive team is also important to me as I have been very fortunate to have great friendships with many peers in the sport.   An ideal coach for me is one that is focused on the development of his or her divers, as well as a coach who I can look up to as a teacher/mentor. The sport of diving teaches you about resilience, perseverance, team and commitment - all tied in to the leadership of a great coach.  My education outside of diving is also very important to me. I wish to pursue a business degree as my future career goals involve finance and/or accounting.
