My name is Braeden Rooney and I am a senior attending Saint Ignatius College Preparatory in San Francisco. I have played tournament golf since I was 10. I have been fortunate enough to have been coached by Alex Murray for about the past five years. Alex coaches some top PGA tour players including Maverick McNealy, and he has told me I am capable of playing major college golf. Here is some information about myself and my accomplishments to date.
- I’m 6’3, 155 pounds.
- I have 3.66 overall unweighted GPA, but my GPA improved each year and I achieved a 3.81 unweighted GPA/4.3 weighted GPA in my junior year.
- I’m a member of Olympic Club in San Francisco. I qualified for Olympic Club’s Junior Golf Privilege through the Olympic Club annual junior tournament as a 14-year-old in June 2020.
- I made the Olympic Club junior team to compete in the Bay Cities League as a 15 year old.
- I made the varsity golf team at St. Ignatius as a freshman. (St. Ignatius also has a JV team.) We compete in one of the most competitive high school golf leagues in California - the West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL) - whose competitors regularly achieve golf scholarships to the top universities in the country.
In my sophomore year, I shot 74 on October 10, 2021 at Laguna Seca in the Junior Tour of Northern California Tournament in Monterey and 75 on October 31 at San Juan Oaks Golf Club in the Callaway Future Champions Golf Tournament in Hollister. However, I experienced significant back pain half way through my sophomore year which largely prevented me from playing tournament golf for most of my sophomore and junior years. But I am excited to report my back pain is 100% gone and I have worked my way back to tournament golf. I am confident I will break par in tournaments to come during my senior year golf season in the Spring.
