My name is Emmett Murphy, I am a senior at Telluride high school. Golf has been an interest of mine for many years but I didn't start playing until I was a freshman and I got asked by the high school golf coach at the time to join the team. After I started playing I fell in love with the sport so I started playing every chance I could get. I have gone to every tournament i've been able to make it to so I could compete and learn more about golf. My sophomore year I needed some help with my game cause I was mostly self taught. I traveled to Ft. Lauderdale Florida for a week to work with a PGA pro, Jerrel Gill. Jerrel later asked me to come back to Florida and work with him for the month of June before my senior year. I went from scoring in the 100s in tournaments my freshman year to averaging 80 and under my senior year. I have improved significantly in the 4 years I have been playing, and I hope to continue lowering my scores, and working at my game in college so I compete at the next level. Along with my passion for golf I have had an interest in studying engineering and science since I was 5 or 6 years old. My interest was really sparked when I would watch documentaries about earth sciences and physics with my grandfather Rodger Murphy. Besides watching documentaries with him he would teach me how to do basic repairs on his old 1928 Ford model A like changing the oil, spark plugs and adjusting the carbourator. He helped me figure out what I really would want to study when I was growing up. My goal is to earn my degree in engineering or physics so I can build and design all sorts of machines. I am prepared to do everything I can to achieve my athletic and academic goals. I'm eager to start pushing my golf game further in college, and to start studying my true academic interests.
