James Ellis '11 Recruiting Profile

As an incoming freshman at The Master's Academy I was stopped at orientation by the schools golf coached and questioned if I played any sports, and when I answered only baseball he asked if I had ever played golf or if I was interested in trying. I had not played before and really knew nothing about the game, but then again I was not going to refuse a challenge so I tried out and made the team. Ever since then I have fallen in love with the game, deciding that I was going to become a great golfer and play number one on my high school team and ultimately go further. I have not looked back since that day, as a Junior I achieved my first goal of becoming the number one player at my school. I hear all the time about the great progress I have made in such little time but I refuse to stop here, I will only get better. The greatest compliment that I hear day in and day out is that I am extremely easy to coach and I pick up fast on little adjustments. I am mostly self-taught, only having a handful of lessons over the four years of my golfing career. As I look to play college golf I pray that the road continue on past the collegiate level, I understand that it will take not just work, but hard work. After all, golf is my dream and I am willing to follow that dream no matter where it takes me. Being a follower of Christ, I am also very open to the idea of playing golf at a Christian school. One of the greatest things I take from my Christian walk to the golf course is my level head and my ability to stay calm and collected in all situations. No matter where in the country this game may take me I will always work hard and get better every day, but golf is not just about me, it is about the team. I am a leader and I will not only push myself but I will push my teammates as well.
