I am currently a junior at Shenendehowa Central School District. Shenendehowa is in Clifton Park, which is in upstate New York. I started playing the game of golf when I was 9 years old. Golf has been a part of my life since I was very small because my father plays golf and my mother and step-father play golf as well. I grew up playing golf with family and most enjoyable was playing competitively with my brother Trevor who is a Sophomore at High Point University playing Club Golf. I was able to make the Junior Varsity team as an 8th grader and play on the same team with my brother for two years before he graduated. I made the varsity team when I was a Sophomore and this year I am Captain of the Varsity Team.
My dream is to play competitive golf at the college level. I know that this experience will only further develop my golf skills and me as a person. Many people have said that golf is a mirror of life, and I have experienced that many times. I believe that over the years I have grown and matured as a golfer and as a man. I believe that being a part of a college golf team, while managing my academics in college, can only help to continue my growth in life overall. Another thing I often read in golf books is that golf can be an individual sport. However, being a part of a High School Golf team has shown me how much golfing on a team is really more of a team sport. One of the qualities I have truly enjoyed on my golf team is the camaraderie, friendship, and support we give to each other. Especially, during the time of this Pandemic we have had to build each other up and keep each other focused. Whether I was a teammate or a Captain my place on a golf team is to support my teammates, build them up and assist them in any way that I can. I also believe there is a certain character to uphold as a member of a school’s team representative as we travel and work with various other district’s. If chosen to be a part of a collegiate team I will be determined to uphold the same strong character, morals and hard work ethic to be the best that I can be and represent the school to the best of my ability.
For the past two summers I have been heavily competing in tournaments. I have been lucky to have a very strong golf coach, and am able to practice throughout the winter months as well. My stats are included in my webpage and profile for viewing. I believe that I still have more growth in my golf game and I look forward to moving forward in all areas of my game while in college.
Academically, I work very hard in high school and currently have a GPA of 3.8. This year when I turned 16, I was able to land a job at VanPatten Golf Course working inside at the Pro Shop. I was happy and surprised when I was able to start in the Pro Shop, and believe that is a testament to my maturity. Where I have not picked a solid major for college just yet, I am very interested in Engineering and Business, and have been researching colleges that offer a five (5) year program that may offer me this unique combination. My ultimate dream would be to have a medium sized college with an excellent golf team with a program that meets my interests academically. Playing golf is extremely important to me. Golf is a passion in my life, and truly something that completes me. I am looking to improve my golf game, improve my academics and grow as a man. I hope to find a well-rounded college that can complete this circle.
