To give you an idea about myself, I have been playing golf for as long as I can remember. My Dad placed a club in my hand when I was two years old, and I haven’t put it down since. He has played an integral role in my development as a skilled golfer, as he is an outstanding player himself. Every chance we get together, we hit a course where I can hone my skills and improve my game. Since the very first time I stepped on an actual golf green, I have dreamed of playing golf at the collegiate level. I not only play on my High School Golf team - I am also an active member in the Metropolitan Junior PGA Long Island and Westchester divisions, as well as the New Jersey Junior PGA, participating in numerous tournaments throughout the season. In addition, I competed in and will continue to compete in various MGA , AJGA, and USGA tournaments. I participate in any and all local tournaments that I am eligible for in my hometown of Staten Island. I was named the 2014 Junior Golfer of the Year by the Staten Island Golf Association. This was quite an honor for me and one that I know I worked very hard at to achieve. I was also named a 2015 Advance All-Star by the Staten Island Advance Newspaper. My handicap is currently 1.2 and I continue to work to improve that. I have worked at perfecting my golf game since 2005 as a member of the NYC Junior Golf Club and since 2008 as a member of the City Parks Junior Golf Center and Academy Team, as well.
I have played on my high school varsity golf team at St. Peter’s since my Freshman year and was recently named Team Captain for the 2015-2016 season, as well as the 2015 MVP. During St. Peter's 2014-2015 golf season, I was the only player to achieve 15-0 for an undefeated season, leading our team to finish a great season taking the 1st place title at the CCHSAA City Golf Championship. I consider myself not only a talented and accomplished athlete, but one who strives to be the best player I can be - I work hard and am always willing to go the extra mile in order to perfect my game, as well as help lead my team to victory. I believe I have a very high golf IQ, which helps lend itself to making me a team leader in which I strive to lead by example. I have been told by my coaches in all sports I have participated in that I am an extremely coachable athlete who handles both praise and criticism in the same way - by applying it to my game and improving more and more as I move forward. I actively participated in Freshman and JV Basketball and JV Soccer for two years, until I decided in the Summer going into my Junior year that I wanted to focus all of my time and efforts on golf. I recently wrapped up a full Summer tournament schedule that had me competing in several tournaments through September. I will continue to play in various tournaments throughout the Fall season.
As a Senior at St. Peter's, I work equally as hard on my academics as I do on my golf game. I currently have a 4.0 GPA and scored an 1870 on the SAT, and I plan on taking it again in October. I hope to pursue courses related to communications or business management in college. With my strong work ethic, organizational and time management skills, and my commitment to my academic and athletic goals, I hope to excel in college. I have set many goals for myself which I have yet to reach. One of which is having the opportunity to play golf on a collegiate level. What I hope to find in the university/college I finally attend is one which will help shape me even further into the person that I am meant to be. I look forward to the challenges of college life - academic, athletic, and social. The college I attend will demand that I push myself in the academic classroom and on the golf course. It will help to prepare for my future after college. I look forward to my whole college experience with great anticipation - and can't wait to meet many new friends and share new experiences. It will be great working closely with great teachers in my areas of interest, and with a coach who will see great potential and promise in me as an individual and as a golfer. I feel I am open to all options at this point in my college search, but ultimately want to find the right college match at the highest level of competition for me as an individual athlete and student. The outcome I hope to achieve is to make not only my parents proud but to make myself proud of all my achievements.
The sport of golf has helped me in so many ways. On the golf course, I have found what could be called a second home. Golf has given me a perspective that I don't believe I would otherwise have at this point in my life. It has taught me self-discipline and has grounded me as a young adult. On the course, I discover parts of myself that I didn't know existed. Golf causes me to dig deep and strive for the best. I truly want to participate on the collegiate level. I believe that golf will continue to play an enormous role in my future and I hold tightly to my dreams of playing professionally some day.
