Hello Prospective Golf Coach,
11/28/23 UPDATE: I was named as a NYS Section IV STAC Conference Metro All-Division All Star for my Senior Year fall season.
10/3/23 UPDATE: In just my second season of competitive golf, I qualified for the 3rd spot on my Varsity team and have averaged a 41 for the entire season and have qualified for the individual state qualifying rounds in the spring. My team finished with a 11-1 record (first place in regular season for both our conference (STAC) and section (IV)) and I have contributed (at least top 5 on my team) in every match. I shot an 83 in the team sectional tournament, which was 2nd on my team, and T-10th overall (out of 50+ players), my team finished 3rd out of 8 teams.
I am William Brosius and I’m very hopeful for the opportunity to play golf at the collegiate level. I’ve been playing golf since I was 10 years old, but only started playing competitively in the summer of 2022. Baseball was my main sport since I was 5 years old, playing catcher and starting on most of my teams, which included the last 2 years on the JV team. I played travel baseball and legion baseball over the summers. Last summer, I wanted to start focusing more on golf and took lessons from a local coach and began entering a few local tournaments. I tried out and was selected for my high school golf team in the fall of 2022. Since last fall, I haven’t been able to get enough of golf. I put my baseball bat down and practiced golf all winter. I joined my high school team’s home course, The Links at Hiawatha Landing, as a member this 2023 spring and have been at the course every day putting, chipping, hitting at the driving range, and playing rounds. I also was hired this spring as an employee to work at this golf course. I plan to play as many NYSGA, TCGA (Triple Cities Golf Assoc), and local junior amateur events as I can this 2023 summer and I’m looking forward to my Senior season on the high school golf team.
Once I took some lessons, started playing more, and playing tournaments, I lowered my 18 hole scoring average by 10 strokes to the mid 80s since last summer. As I continue to work on my game and practice every day, my goal is to be another 5 strokes lower (under 80) by this upcoming fall when my high school season begins. I am very dedicated to being successful in anything I do, from sports to school. I’ve always strived to get better, stronger, and more knowledgeable in all goals I set for myself. I would love to bring my love of the game, passion for success, and drive and determination to continue to improve my game to a college golf program.
My love of sports can be shown not only through my involvement as a player, but also my involvement over the years as a volunteer. I’m currently helping my high school golf coach with a middle school golf intramurals program this spring. We are working with 25-30 6th, 7th, 8th graders twice a week on the rules, fundamentals, and proper techniques of the game of golf. Also, over the last 3+ years I’ve been an umpire for my home town little league (which I played in) and a referee for our CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) basketball league (which I also played in). I also volunteer as an alter server with my church.
Academics are also very important to me and I am focused on obtaining an engineering degree in college. My family has been a part of the engineering industry, both my grandfather and father, and I’ve always had a passion for architecture & engineering. From building historical buildings with LEGOs as a kid, to now taking engineering classes and using CADD platforms in high school, engineering has always been a focus of mine. If I could do anything engineering related, it would be to design golf courses or sports stadiums.
I look forward to hopefully hearing from you and exploring playing golf for your program at the next level in college.
