I am a Warwick Valley High School Varsity golfer preparing to compete competitively at the college level in the fall of 2022. Golf is my passion, hobby, and potential career. I enjoy the physical and mental challenges of the game and enjoy learning new ways to improve.
My father started teaching me how to play golf when I was five years old. Starting in seventh grade, a private trainer helped me develop my strength and skills, which led to a spot on the Warwick High School Varsity team. I earned my way to starter position in my eighth-grade golf season, and we won our Section IX Championship. I worked even harder as a starter my freshman year, and again our team won the Section IX Championship. Qualifying for day two of Sections was a highlight my freshman year. I was determined to make it to States my sophomore year; however, COVID-19 shut everything down. Even though our season was canceled the first week of the golf season, I continued to train hard at home until my local country club opened when golf course restrictions were lifted in New York. The government did not allow travel from New York to tournaments outside the tri-state area. I was registered for many local tournaments, but many were canceled. We also could not travel outside the area and then afford to quarantine two weeks because my parents own restaurants.
I work hard at school, golf, and at one of my parents’ restaurants and plan on continuing to play competitive golf through college and beyond. High school has a very condensed 2021 spring golf season, and the New York State Championship has already been canceled due to COVID-19. I am registered to compete in many local spring and summer 2021 tournaments in New York and New Jersey. To prepare for a great season, I continue to train on my own with my instructor, coaches, simulator practice, and weight training. I also play lacrosse, basketball, and ski for my school, and this has taught me a variety of skills and built my strength and confidence.
