Golf started off as a simple curiosity to me. I had heard my friends talk about it as well as I knew my grandfather and uncle were avid players. At a young age of 10 in Naples Florida, I asked my grandfather if I could join him on the course even though it appeared I would be the youngest. I was hooked immediately and my family still talks about how I wanted to go golfing six days straight and skipped going to Disney.
While I tried varying sports growing up, golf clicked for me personally as it had everything I had been looking for in a sport. Golf required patience, focus, analytics and determination. It requires the ability to visualize. And most importantly, the game is played mainly on a 5-6 inch course...the space between your ears. There are good and bad days in golf you have to try to overcome and I want to always strive to be the best version of myself and improve on my own game.
Over the past years, I have played on my school golf team where I was proud to be selected to attend the Counties match and represent West Islip as a sophomore. Additionally, I have played competitively at Jones Academy and have competed in multiple tournaments in the Tri-State area. I plan to compete in many tournaments this upcoming Spring and Summer and keep improving my average score.
Golf has changed me as a person, it has given me self-esteem. I am planning to go to a college to focus on getting a degree in computer science with exceptional academics but I would love to also compete as a student-athlete. I am willing to work very hard to balance and manage my time between academics and athletics.
