My name is Ryan Godfrey. I am a 2003 hockey player from Setauket, New York. I currently play with the PAL Junior Islanders AAA U18 team. I have graduated from Ward Melville High School and am currently taking a gap year to continue to develop as a player and consider my options as a hockey player preparing for college. As a five time Captain/Alternate Captain, I feel I have the talent, but also the character, work ethic and leadership skills to make an impact on a competitive hockey program.
I am looking to find a program for academics as well as athletics. I continue to aspire to play at the highest level I can achieve. In terms of a career path, I remain undecided, but am considering all of the following areas for my future: business administration, sports marketing and management, sports medicine, coaching and recruiting.
Academically, I was a member of the National Junior Honor Society, maintaining a 90, or higher, grade point average throughout my high school career. I volunteer my free time at various groups and organizations on campus, and within my community. At school I was a member of Student Government, and a member of Key Club, in which I was recently inducted and received an "Outstanding Service Award". Outside of school I volunteered on Sunday mornings, when my schedule allowed, with the Long Island Blues, a hockey organization for kids with special needs. I've also participated in several other events for Make-A-Wish and the Stony Brook Children's Hospital. I am grateful for what I have and know the importance of giving back to the community. I have always tried to lead by example both on and off the ice.
My goal is to join a competitive NCAA or ACHA program where I will continue to grow as a player, teammate and person. I will always work hard and put my team first and foremost above my individual play. I am a true team player and will continue to work on all aspects of my play to raise the level of my game.
