Hello and thank you for taking the time to review my profile. Ever since I can remember I loved playing hockey. I also played soccer, I love fishing, playing chess and play golf quite often but hockey was always my favorite thing to do. I love the competition, the teamwork and the physicality of this sport. I always made the most competitive teams levels. At the Atom AA level, I was elected assistant captain by my teammates. We won 2 of the 3 tournaments we participated in and were ranked 5th in the Province. We were invited to the Provincials competitions but then COVID hit and all hockey (games & practices) were cancelled.
For Pee-wee when I was still in 6th grade, I tried out for the AAA team of the region and made the team as one of 6 defensemen out of 200 other players. Covid was ongoing and after 2 months when the season started, all hockey once again stopped. When I entered high school, I had to make the decision to stay in the AAA division or go with the school team in the RSEQ. I always wanted to have a degree and good grades so I decided to find a school I liked and continue down that road.
After visiting a few high schools, I decided to attend a private college in Rigaud which happened to be a fully French school which had the reputation of having a great hockey program. Being an anglophone and having had limited French classes, I knew this would be a challenge and chose to spend the last 2 years at Collège Bourget learning in fully French classroom. I am proud I was able to keep my grades up during that time. This school happens to have their own private rink which came handy has there was no government rule through COVID and I was able to skate 5 days a week as most kids didn't have that chance. I really like the coaches and their athletic program. In my first year with the M13D1 team, we ended up winning the school's 1st Division Championship banner. I was chosen as an assistant captain on that team and won a personal trophy for best sportsman.
Last season still at Bourget, I made the school's Bantam D1 team in my first year. I feel this helped my physical game as well as helped me to adjust to a faster speed of hockey. That year, I received and invitation to play in a tournament in Florida. I was able to play against teams not only from the US but from Finland and Chez republic. I ended up winning MVP for one of the games but it was the experience that I remember the most.
I am extremely excited for this next year as I was recruited by the coaches from Hoosac Prep school in New York state to play for their varsity team the Owls. After a visit of the campus and dorms, as well of meeting the coaches, I have decided to take advantage of this opportunity. I know it won't be easy leaving home, family and friends at 14, playing and competing with older students, but I have never been scared of a challenge and I know it will only make me better in the long run. It will also be nice to return to learning in English, in smaller classes where I can focus and concentrate on my grades.
I recognize that being a great athlete start with being in great physical and mental shape. I have always been conscious of the food I eat, limiting sugar and being vegan for 2 years in the past to increase my performance. When I joined the Bantam D1 team, I realized I needed to put on weight quickly and re-adjusted my eating habits. I have trained with many professionals at school and privately to learn the proper gym training technique which I use every day. I have also enjoyed session with the hockey prep mental coach from the school.
I have always dreamed to achieve a higher level of academics in the United States and I believe this is the beginning of my journey of becoming a D1 college hockey player. I am hoping with the help of NCSA to be able to find the right fit for me within a great University where I could continue to excel and enjoy playing the sport I love.
Thank you for your consideration
