Hi, my name is Liza Gere and I have played ice hockey since I was seven years old. Throughout most of my career, I have and still am playing boys hockey. Alongside that I also began training and playing with a U16 girls team (Ice Bees) at the age of 10 - this team qualified as national champions 4 times during my years at the club.
As a hockey player, I would be best described as a defensive D. However, I also am very capable of good decision making within the offensive zone. When there are no options I often rush the puck. I am very easily coachable as I am very receptive to feedback in order to improve my game and I am always one of the hardest working players on and off the ice. I have a very team oriented attitude towards hockey, motivating me to perform as best as I can all the time not only for myself but for my team. I also have a very energetic personality and always try to boost team morale even when we are on a low.
Additionally, I am the head coach of the Frosta-Lund U14 girls team competing in the regional series of South Sweden. Coaching is also a big love of mine - though my hockey comes first. In this way, I am also becoming a more well rounded hockey player as I not only play the sport but also have an advanced understanding of the game which translates into my hockey greatly. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and I make sure to fully take advantage of it for the sake of the young girls I am coaching. Not only do I help them develop into great hockey players but amazing individuals.
For as long as I can recall, my biggest aspiration has been to attend a college or university which will challenge me both academically and athletically. While I am extremely dedicated to and passionate about athletics, academics plays an equally important role in my life. Due to having to split my time between a challenging IB diploma programme, a demanding boys team and a Women's Elite team; my time management and organisational skills have become very advanced and; increase my reliability and resilience in the eyes of teachers and coaches. My work ethic within the classroom is just as strong as it is on the ice, enabling me to constantly grow and develop to pursue my highly ambitious dreams.
I am a very determined prospective student athlete; continuing at the upwards trajectory I am currently on, while attending an academically selective and athletically competitive institution; I will be shaped into the best possible student athlete I can be.
Thank you for taking this time to get to know me!
