My name is Brady Schultz, I am in the 10th grade at Trinity Pawling School, Pawling New York. I have a brother named Owen who is in the 7th grade and also plays hockey. My dad and my mom were both D1 athletes. My dad played hockey at the University of Connecticut and then later played in the ECHL for many years. My mom played soccer also at the University of Connecticut. My grandpa, Norm Barnes, played hockey at Michigan State and later played for the Philadelphia Flyers and Hartford Whalers in the NHL. He also landed a spot in the 1980 all-star game. Lets just say I was born into the world of sports. Growing up I played soccer, baseball, lacrosse, and hockey, and was very talented at all of them. But my passion has always been hockey and ever since I first stepped out onto the ice, I felt a special bond with the sport. I have been skating since I was 4 and playing club hockey since I was 8. I have always wanted to go pro and be successful in hockey and I have realized that college is a huge stepping stone in my plan and future as well. My grandpa and dad are huge influences in my life and I try to soak up every piece of advice they offer me on and off the ice.
I work as hard as I do in the classroom as well as I do on and off the ice. I have carried myself very well through High school with a 4.0 GPA . I have been told by teachers that I am very responsible and mature for my age. In school I try to represent myself the best I can. I find time throughout my day for school work even with the huge commitment of hockey. In middle school I received the superintendent's student of the month award and had been selected out of 200 kids in my school to help establish a new program that bridges the communication between students and teachers. When I graduated Middle School I received the award for Most Outstanding Boy. I have realized that as much as I love hockey it will eventually come to an end and that is why I want to go to college, to get the education I need to live a good life.
I am a player that you want on your team because I am the hardest working player on and off the ice. I might not be the flashiest player, but I am the player that will get the job done no matter what situation or position I am in. I am very energetic, which makes me a very good leader on and off the ice whether I am using my voice or leading by example. I consistently provide physicality, speed, and offense in my game, but I can also be a shutdown defenseman. I am always trying to improve my game whether it is shooting pucks in my basement or working out off the ice. I have been told that I am a very coachable player, with a very high hockey IQ, that can work with pretty much anyone. Throughout my hockey experience, so far I have learned about commitment, sacrifice, teamwork, and leadership. I have also learned that my love for hockey keeps growing stronger.
Away from hockey I am very family-oriented and enjoy spending quality time with my entire family whether that is going to my brothers hockey games or spending time with cousins and grandparents. I also enjoy hanging out and playing all different types of sports with my friends while appreciating my life. Some of my other hobbies include drawing, coloring, and art which in general relaxes me. I also enjoy reading a good book from time to time. I feel that it is good to not just focus on hockey, hockey, hockey and branch out into other activities and aspects of life because after your career you have to do something with your life and having a wide spread of hobbies/interests is very good for your future.
