Sava Makarenko '22 Recruiting Profile

Hockey has been my passion since the age of 7. From that age I enjoyed the comradery and sense of commitment found in team sports. Playing sports, especially hockey are what drove me. Playing hockey taught me the importance  of both grit and grace in the game, and the beauty of teamwork. 

 My hockey goal is to play college hockey and every day I work hard , continuously learning and improving so I can play at an even higher level for the benefit of my team. I have tremendous respect for authority and my peers and I know that I would be a great addition to any team. I know that I have what it takes to lead a team or play whatever role is necessary to help the team succeed. It's about the name on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.

I love using my hockey experiences and  skills to encourage and inspire others, especially youth. I volunteered with the Northern Bravehearts organization out of the Brewster Ice Arena in Brewster, NY. They are a hockey team for children with special needs such as down syndrome and autism. I helped train them and escort them on the ice and every time they inspired me with their courage and determination.
