When I was just 11 years old my family found out my father was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. As our family was confronted with this tragic news we did not know what to expect. I had just started playing lacrosse for 1 month when we found out about my dad's sickness. He explained to me that life is like sports, there are only certain things you can control, such as keeping a positive attitude, always giving 100% and never give up. I remember wanting to make my dad happy and proud of me so I worked very hard practicing and playing lacrosse. Unfortunately he was so sick and not able to go to any of my games that year. We received good news a year later my father was told that his cancer had gone into remission. I have learned so many lessons in life to never give up even when you think there is no way to win you always continue working hard, stay focused and keep a positive attitude. Four years later my dad is back 100% healthy and he never misses any of my lacrosse games.
I learned a lot about how important attitude and hard work and how that occurs everyday in life, school and sports. I feel very fortunate to have learned so much by the age of 14 and I look forward to using these life lessons in my future with lacrosse and my school work. I never take anything for granted and will always work hard in school and sports.
