I have played lacrosse going on seven years, starting when I was in fifth grade. I love lacrosse because it’s a team sport. Winning, which is what I care about most, depends on every teammate fulfilling their role. My role as attack, playing primarily at X, is to help run the offense – making sure we move the ball at a solid pace, running the plays, hitting the open man or the cutter and scoring when the opportunity allows. I play hard all the time that shows itself when I ride the goalie or defensemen and cause turnovers which allows us to gain another scoring opportunity.
Following my sophomore year, I received All-Conference recognition and was selected as our team’s varsity MVP. My junior year I battled through a sprained ankle on my right leg and an Achilles injury on the left. Despite the challenge of playing through those injuries, I still received All-Conference recognition and was named Most Valuable Attack by the team. I also broke my school record for assists from the previous year. Most importantly however, our team made the state tournament. Sixteen teams out of 36 (in 5A) make the tournament and we were seeded 12th. We are looking forward to making those teams above us very uneasy in 2015.
My size at this time (5’5”, 145 lbs.) had caused some opponents to overlook me…initially. Teams now try to lock me down from the very start of games, which is more of a compliment to my playing ability rather than overlooking me because of my size. My assets are my speed, quickness and vision. Coaches at the next level can expect a hardworking, coachable player who will always put a team win above individual stats. Like I said at the beginning, lacrosse is a team sport.
