My first reaction to crew? "That was awesome!" I started my journey in January of 2022 by going to West Side Rowing Club three times a week just to erg. I thought it was fun, which is pretty ironic since I'm a coxswain now. Right from the beginning I was passionate about the sport, and always wished practice was more often than every other day. Now my old wish is a reality and I am completely in love with the sport. I am interested in continuing to cox at the collegiate level and I cox both men's and women's boats. I have coxed 4's, 8's and quads during both practices and races, and I regularly participate in erg, running, and general rowing workouts with both sculling and sweeping. This allows me to empathize with my rowers and gain their respect. I have experience coxing both short and long races, having coxed the Royal Canadian Henley, Head of the Charles, and Head of the Schuylkill. My rowers appreciate me and even ask me to cox them during the Shuffle Off to Buffalo, a local winter erg race. I love all aspects of being a cox - helping my rowers reach their full potential, encouraging them during tough races, and the overall camaraderie with them. We have a limited number of teams in the boathouse and I am still able to maintain really great relationships with other coxswains, despite frequently competing with them. Although we practice 13 hours a week, I am able to maintain A+ grades in all of my honors level classes and regularly volunteer in my community.
