Hi, I'm Hunter Simons. I am a student at Worcester Preparatory School. What separates me from my peers is my story. I was born in the deep depths of Siberia, Russia of all places, and was adopted by my now parents at the age of 18 months. My mom always told me if I could survive a year and a half in a disheveled, broken-down orphanage then I can get through anything. My parents are my role models. My dad is a cardiologist and I like to say I get my brains from him, and my mom works in marketing and has taught me how to be a people person. They had me started in sports early on. At the age of four, I was thrown into gymnastics with my brother, who is also adopted from the same orphanage. I wasn't liking gymnastics so I transitioned into soccer, my now main sport. I have to give credit to gymnastics though for teaching me determination and composure. I started soccer at the age of eight and realized that I had a late start. Early on I sat on the bench and learned the qualities to be a leader from those around me. After sitting on the bench for a year or so my mindset had changed, I wanted to be the best I could be. When I told my mom this, she hired a private soccer coach and I could see myself improving. Soon I had gained that starting spot I had wanted, but I wasn't done there. I slowly climbed the ranks and am recognized as the captain of my team. I give full credit to both my mom for pushing me and myself for my hard work, determination, and vigor. I bring my leadership qualities into the classroom as I am the Vice President of my grade's student council and my hard work shows as I have always maintained above a 4.0 GPA. In my spare time, I co-founded a company, alongside my brother, in which we give back to those who are less fortunate in our community. Only Positive Stories has only grown since its founding and has grown to become a non-profit organization helping both the youth and homeless in our area. I can't wait to have the chance to bring my positive, determined, hard-working attitude to the locker room, field, classroom, and campus of a college. I thank anyone who is willing to give me a chance to show them who I am as a person.
