Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, I moved to NYC at the age of 12. Futbol (soccer) is an intricate part of Argentinian culture and whether or not you are a player, young or old, rich or poor you always feel passionate about the sport. I absolutely love learning new things about futbol whilst playing the game at school, at my club, and with my friends at the park. Although I usually play as a Left Winger, I'm always open to trying out new striker and midfield positions.
I became interested in the sport when my dad introduced me to club rivalry in Argentina, better known as “Los Clásicos”: Boca v. River, Racing v. Independiente, Newell’s v. Rosario Central to name a few. Soon after I began practicing in elementary school and played as a goalkeeper at a very young age. I quickly realized the position I can contribute the most to the team is as a goalkeeper and it’s where I shine the best. Playing futbol I realized how your mental disposition influences how you play, it’s not just about physical talent. I know I need to clear my head before a game to be ready for the sport. Futbol helped me become a more focused person.
Moving from another country is a tough challenge because you leave many things behind but new opportunities open up. I had to take a hiatus from futbol when I first arrived in NY as my family settled in a new house and I settled in a new school. When I resumed playing, mostly during recess in middle school, I realized that the sentiment for the sport among kids was quite different in the US than in my native Argentina. I wanted to get serious again and getting the opportunity to play in a club represents my endurance and determination. My next step is finding a team in college as I know the academic challenge will be highlighted by the experience of being part of a team.
