My name is Ethan Coad and I will be graduating from Brooklyn Technical High School (Brooklyn, NY), a highly competitive high school in New York City, in June of 2018. I am a Law and Society major and my current GPA is a 3.70. I have been training and playing competitive soccer since I am 6 years old. The first club I played for was Manhattan Kickers FC, a club that for years was affiliated with the New York Cosmos. My coaches describe me as highly motivated and passionate about playing the game. These qualities along with maturity and dedication have served me well on and off the field. I have been captain and starting center back for my Club team Metropolitan Oval (“Met Oval”) for the past two years. Prior to joining Met Oval in 2014 to play on their U14 academy team as a starting center back, I played for BW Gottschee’s U13 pre-academy team where I was also a starting center back.
My coaches say that my strengths are communication, technical abilities, physical and mental toughness, tactical vision and anticipation. I am a smart player who understands the game and I am not afraid to use my body to deflect passes and shots. I am particularly good at disrupting the striker from making a run or receiving the ball, heading the ball, tackling, marking my man as well as passing, clearing and receiving the ball. My team depends on me to organize the back line and read the field.
In addition to playing club soccer, I am the starting center back on my high school team. I also frequently play the midfield. Brooklyn Tech finished the fall 2016 season second in its division and we made it to the playoffs in large part due to my contributions. In the summer of 2016, I trained in Spain with the Barcelona Soccer Academy.
My goal is to play high-level soccer at an academically rigorous university. I enjoy the physical aspect of the sport and the focus on team.
In college, I intend to pursue degrees in political science and business with the hope of then pursing a JD/MBA.
