As an aspiring federal prosecutor, my goals are to engage in activities and academia that are both reflective of the values that my parents have instilled in me, and paramount to achieving my life goals. Growing up in Brooklyn I’ve had the opportunity to witness multiple perspectives of the legal system through my studies and internships.
As I look forward to the collegiate aspect of my academic career, a substantive part of my personal growth has been rooted in reflecting on the acts, deeds, and intent propelling those whom I have a fond respect for in the field that I aspire to be a part of. Mentors such as Bryan Stevenson who founded the Equal Justice Initiative, the legacy of Thurgood Marshall, the tenacity, poise and collective understanding of constitutional law that Barack Obama wields, and the perseverance to champion equity and reshape the legal landscape garnered by Macon Boiling Allen- have all been the fuel to the fire that propels me towards my goals. All of these men grasped that the founding fathers of the constitution understood the fluid need for expansion and contraction of governance. They comprehended America’s journey to judicious totality was not etched in stone. Because of its faults and strengths, our legal system must continually evolve to equally protect and serve all who stand upon the scales of liberty and justice.
My passion for soccer has also been shaped by the same fervor that I have for the rule of law. Since the age of six, I have lived and breathed fútbol. It has been a refuge and there is no greater exuberance than when I am on the field giving it my all. I have been playing with DUSC for the past 5 years (primarily as a striker and right-wing). The gratitude and exhilaration of being part of a brotherhood that’s such a dynamic and cohesive team are unspeakable. It has helped me to hone my skills as I helped lead my team to multiple tournament wins, cross-regional championships, a second place showing at the 2019 Surf Cup in San Diego (where I took the title of MVP), a regional ranking of seventh , and a national ranking that places my team twelfth, and personal New York East Ranking of second-place, and extending me an individual achievement within New York City’s high school rankings of fifteenth in 2018, and ninth in 2019.
When it comes to soccer, I have studied greats such as Maradona, Pelé, Are Ronaldo, and Messi. Although they have been major sources of inspiration to me. But my greatest inspiration is my parents. The days, nights, and weekends they willingly sacrificed in support of getting me to where I am, is a selfless gesture that I am continually grateful for. Of all of the gifts they have given me, the greatest has been hope.
I look forward to one day being able to mentor others and pass down the lessons of strength, courage, and wisdom that were given to me. I have no doubt that my collegiate career will foster opportunities for personal and professional growth as I continue my journey as an agent of change while making the world and community I serve a better place.
