My soccer career started in preschool when dad signed me up. He automatically became the coach as a former high school and college soccer player. At first, I did not know what I was doing or even if I liked it, but as I grew older and the games and teams became competitive, I fell in love with it. In the beginning, I could have been better at the game, but I was having fun. My older siblings and cousins were always playing with me, and without knowing it, they were helping me to improve.
One thing I learned from soccer or sports in general, is that once I realize that I’m good at something, I put all my focus into improving. I became motivated by the improvements that I saw in myself. I have applied that motivation to school to boost myself academically. I began working out early in the morning, improving my academics by making me more alert and focused on my schoolwork. Self-motivation is a skill that I had to learn, and it is not something everyone has. I started noticing other soccer players, both professional and teammates. I paid close attention to the coaches. I am very good at accepting constructive criticism and making improvements. My coaches, from my dad to the high school varsity coaching staff, have encouraged me to improve my skill set. These minor improvements have made me the sound and solid defensive player I am and would make me an asset to any team.
