It goes without saying that swimming is a sport that you need to be committed to if you have a desire to be successful. I believe that I am one of those committed teammates. Waking up early before school for practice is something I actually find pleasure in - I love this sport. I love getting in the water. I love seeing what can be achieved when you push your body to the limits. I never thought I would enjoy parachute training, but I do now, because I realize the benefits of it.
The same is true for myself in academics. When it was first introduced to me, I knew I wanted to get into the International Baccalaureate program at my school. With a strong focus and commitment to my education, I was able to achieve this goal I set for myself. Both my parents are educators, and hard work is something that has been instilled in me from a young age. "There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work and learning from failure" is a mantra that has been repeated to me. My mom demonstrates that to me everyday, and it is something I have internalized. I feel energized when I am challenged and I enjoy leadership and service. Because of this, I have been a successful leader for my student body the past 2 years as sophomore and junior class president. Being class president is actually a lot of work - and a lot of time management. I think my training in the pool has prepared me in that area.
I know how to balance my academics and my commitment to my sport. I'm just as happy sitting on my couch on a Friday night, cheering for my favorite football team from the grandstand, or going on vacation and exploring small towns on historic Route 66. My family has not only instilled in me the value of hard work, but also the value of family and kindness.
I am looking for a college to challenge me both academically as well as in a swim program. I am hoping to be part of an environment where hard work is the foundation. I want to be part of a team culture and an academic culture where there is a sense of team, support and a desire to excel.
I believe in setting the bar high.
