Being a part of a top-5 ranked New York State team with one of the best records in New York State will always be a highlight of my sports career. But when I didn't start on that team as a Sophomore, I took that personally. I worked to become an even greater student-athlete than I already was, getting physically, technically, and mentally greater at the beautiful game, and I would win the New York State championship.
This did not go to plan.
This season my team was ranked 3rd in the state and undefeated in the regular season, but we had an early upset in the semi-finals to a team that would end up winning our section. But I did not just improve as a player, but as a teammate. I learned leadership skills I had never thought were possible to obtain. I sacrificed everything for my team when I was on the field AND on the bench. And best of all, I learned to play for the team name on the front of the shirt, and not the player name on the back. I believe I have the talent to play soccer at the collegiate level. And if I get onto a team, or even your team, I will assure you I will bring all of those skills I gained into your team.
