Coach Saverio Lento describes me as a goalkeeper "with great technical ability and a good shot stopper and one that deals with high balls very well, with good timing and knows how to attack the ball at the highest point."
I am now 6'5", and I have lots of strengths to offer as a goalkeeper at a high level. One of them I feel is my size. Having control of the entire 18 yard box and being so explosive to come out or to make a diving save makes me an imposing figure to all players, and my huge 6’6” wing-span adds to me being able to snatch up high balls with ease. I am extremely vocal from the back and am always communicating with the starting 11 especially with the back defenders. Making it clear to all when I call out, the ball will be mine, weather it be a threw ball to the striker or a cross in, I will be vocal all times of the game. When it comes to distribution I know what needs to be done and when to do it. Being able to distribute with both feet is a great advantage to me because under pressure I can clear it with ease or pass it out to a winger. My goal kicks, punts, throws, rolls, are very accurate. Being able to hit a players foot at half with a throw or punt to the other 18 yard box to help build a counter attack, I am quick to recognize what needs to be done and do it quick. I am a vocal leader both on and off the field and have a competitive instinct, excellent game management skills and ball distribution that allow me to adapt to styles of play, both offensively and defensively. I am also always mentally focused when it comes to school and soccer.
I have had the opportunity to help my team win the Manitoba Soccer League title, this is the most competitive league for my age in Manitoba. I also lead my team to a championship win in the 2013 U-15 Ontario Cup Finals, where we were named the best team in Ontario. Starting and playing in all four games I only gave up one goal, and I came up with 3 saves in PK's to send us to the semi-finals. In April of 2014 I had a successful opportunity to further develop my play at a high level at the Dallas Dr. Pepper Cup.
I am currently in my senior year of high, where I have been the team's starting keeper since my freshman year. We won the championship title with a 6-0-1 record, and it is my second championship since being at St. Ignatius. In my first two years of High School play, I have only given up 1 regulation goal and finished last season with 6 shutouts. In school I excel in Business, Marketing, Ethics and English. I have a 3.0 GPA and hope to raise that even more in the coming semester. Although, I am eligible to graduate this June with my Grade 12 Ontario Diploma, I have decided to go back to High School to complete a fifth year (Grade 13), thus making me available for recruiting to schools for the fall of 2017.
Aside from soccer, I also played on the starting line up for our Senior Boys Varsity Volleyball team that won the city championship this past fall. I am also the lead role as "Joseph" in our school production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat that will play this May at the high school. I also volunteer my time in the school church choir and go to local schools to help the children in my city. These opportunities have further given me the chance to become well involved within my school community of 1200 students aside from athletics.
Ultimately, I enjoy playing at a high level and want to succeed as a team player both on and off the field. I love to compete and strive to be the very best at my position. Off the field, I want nothing more than a chance to also become that leader and be the go to person in my business pursuits. I hope to pick a school that will offer both types of learning and playing experiences.
I look forward for the opportunity to be a potential starter for your school Men’s Soccer Program in the fall of 2017.
Thanks
Mitchell
