Being a freshman starter on my high school varsity team came with huge responsibility. I had to prove myself as a valuable part of the team, and it taught me vital lessons about work ethic and responsibility. That year, we won the first state championship that Dreher High School has ever won. Pushing against all odds against the best teams in South Carolina and making it out on top showed me how important it is to apply myself and grow as a player, teammate, and leader.
I’ve been playing since I was 4 years old, and my Dutch background has made soccer a big part of my life. It has given me opportunities that have changed my life; traveling to Germany for a soccer exchange, going to Las Vegas and Disney for showcases, and many more adventures. I am determined to continue my love of the game, and I hope to find a program that will support this.
Academics have always been my priority, and I take great pride in my performance in school. Helping my peers and tutoring my friends has become a great opportunity for me to develop as a leader; it has taught me to lead from the front and support my peers rather than criticizing from the rear. I try to transfer this mindset onto the soccer field as much as I can, supporting my teammates with positive reinforcement and always having their backs. When heads are down, I push extra hard to be the difference that brings my team’s morale back up. I aspire to be part of a program that will allow me to combine strong academics with competitive soccer.
