My name is Nicholas Fetzer and I am in the graduating class of 2019. I attend Strake Jesuit College Preparatory in Houston, Texas and play for Houston FC (PDL and UPSL). I have played Competitive since I was 8 years old. I am looking for a college where I can excel academically and athletically. I have loved soccer for my entire life and have longed to continue my career as long as I can, and playing collegiate soccer would be my goal. The club I play for is Houston FC on the U19 team. This team will play its 2018-2019 games in the UPSL professional developmental league. In the summer of 2018, I earned a starting spot on Houston FC, competing in the PDL, the highest level of amateur competition. Last summer, I played with the Houston FC reserve team in U23+ league competitions.
My strongest position is Center Back and I have also proven myself as the holding mid and outside back, though I have been known to be put at striker late in games to score the crucial goal. I am an excellent leader on the pitch being named the captain of both my high school team as well as my club team. I am very coachable and take criticism well and learn from it. I am always at the field and strive to be the best player I can be.
I believe the greatest strengths of my play are leadership, presence, physicality, and athleticism. Being the leader of both my high school and club team takes responsibility and I embrace it recognizing that it is a huge role on the team. I currently stand at 5'10 and weigh 165 and believe my size gives me a big presence on the field and makes me intimidating. I pride myself on my strength by putting in hard tackles that change the game and not backing down from anyone. I am also one of the more athletic players with a strong vertical and the ability to change direction quickly and the ability to run the whole game without tiring.
In the classroom, I work very hard to keep my GPA high. I take advanced classes and I am involved in many clubs as well. In my Freshman and Sophomore and Junior years, I have served as an elected representative in student government. I take pride in being a leader in my community, with Mission trips and service projects, being part of my church youth group and swim team coach for my neighborhood league. I have picked up other sports like swimming and water polo as they help keep me strong and fit. With any free time I have, I love to pick up my guitar and learn some new and popular songs.
