I have many hobbies that I love doing. Discovering these hobbies and delving more into them matured me as a person throughout life. My strong interest in soccer and computers are two major hobbies I enjoy. My dual interests in technology and sports have helped me develop into the well-rounded person that I am today. I am happily looking forward to expanding my knowledge and skill in both areas while attending college.
Soccer has played an important role in my life in many ways. My father is Moroccan and soccer is everything in Morocco. When I became more interested in soccer, it helped me connect to Moroccan heritage. During the summer of 2017, my family and I traveled to Africa for our annual trip. One of the first things we did was gather our family members, and scheduled a huge soccer game at a complex that my cousin owns. When we got to the complex the next day, it was humongous. He was able to rent out a huge field on the rooftop. When the game started, you could feel the excitement in the air. I was constantly communicating with my family so this was an experience that helped me bond with my family using soccer. Soccer has also taught me excellent goal setting and time management skills because I have to balance my workouts, school, and practice constantly. During the summer, I applied for a job at Food Lion. When I started, it was difficult remembering where everything was in the store, but I never gave up and memorized where everything went. My bosses constantly told me that I had a stronger work ethic than other teens. I attribute this to lessons I learned from soccer. Having these skills and implementing them into my work was very useful because these are skills I will use wherever I go in life. Soccer will continue to be helpful throughout college and after because the time management and goal setting skills are ones I will implement throughout my life.
Another area of interest that I have are computers. When I was 13, my father bought me my first computer. At that moment I fell in love with computers and wanted to learn all about them. I watched countless YouTube videos on what each part of the computer does, where it is located, and how to install or remove it. About a year later, I saved up enough money, bought new parts for my computer, and built my own entirely from scratch. This experience taught me about how computers work, but also about managing projects. Another thing I have learned from working with computers is how to troubleshoot them. Troubleshooting requires great problem solving skills and an open mind. I always go to my grandparents’ house and help them with any computer problems they have. My troubleshooting skills are excellent because when I am faced with a problem I do not give up. It may have started with computers, but that is a skill I have been able to apply elsewhere in my life also.
These skills that I have will be very beneficial to me during and after college because they can be applied in any environment. After I graduate college with my Bachelors degree, I will be looking forward to starting a new chapter in life. This will be one of my greatest accomplishments with many more to come. By using these skills that I have acquired, I will be able to push myself to complete my work with excellent accuracy and study hard. After college, I plan to go straight into the workforce doing what I love. I hope to one day own a company where I build and sell computers to customers, and I know my time in college will help me get there.
