There have been few things in my short life that have influenced me, yet the best swimmer of all time is a huge hero of mine. Watching Michael Phelps in the 2016 Olympics was a important milestone in my life. Seeing him achieve so much during those two weeks was incredible to watch. Watching him helped me realize that I can reach my dreams of swimming at a college or university. My club coach, Chris Bertana, has also been a influential male in my life. Coach Chris pushes me to my limits, when I feel my lungs will collapse, he pushes me to go my furthest.
I became interested in swimming when I was 10 years old. My mom signed me up for our community summer swim program. I figured out quickly that I was fast in the freestyle and I really liked doing breast stroke. Not only was it a sport, but it was fun! I made some new friends that summer that I am still friends with. Shortly after, I moved to my current club team, which was a great move for me. Going to swim practice and competing brings life to me. I have learned through swimming that I can do more than I always think I can. I have learned that to go the distance, practice and hard work are involved.
I feel that even though college is three years away, I am excited to be thinking about it. I love social studies and history! I think I am going to major in Archaeology. Academics is so very important. Grades come before anything, and I would put my best foot forward attending your college. My mom attended a university and I am wanting very much to walk in her footsteps. I have had to overcome my parents getting divorced when I was younger, which was hard for me, but due to this, I put my mind to my grades, and know I need to work hard.
Something unique to myself is I am an avid Star Wars fan. I have seen every movie and show that has been produced. I am a great reader and love to learn. Being a freshman in high school, I am over six feet tall. This is pretty unique also, but it helps with my swimming. Thank you for reading my statement. I am excited to see what the future holds for me.
